Research

Molecular Transporters

Besides our work upon the RNAi on membrane lipid biosynthesis and other membrane components, my group is working since a couple of years on the transient application of noncoding RNAs such as miRNAs and siRNAs in vivo and in mammalien cells..... (research on molecular transporters)

Cell recognition of polycationic transporters

Organ targeted delivery is generally based on cell recognition due to interactions of certain cell type specific receptors or surface molecules. Many targeting strategies are therefore based on the specific ligand - receptor interaction. (polycationic transporters)

Antibacterial Transporters

Many polycationic or cationic amphiphilic peptides are known to be potent antibiotics as many of them interfere with the LPS moiety of the bacterial cell membrane. Since many of our polyamine transporters are amphiphilic polycations we tested them for antimicrobial function. We have identified polyamine and peptoid based molecular transporters which are efficiently taken up gram(-) and gram(+) bacteria and act as  potent antibiotic. (more about antibacterial transporters)

RNAi

Since a few years we are focussing on the development of RNAi techniques that allow a complete knockdown of mRNAs without enhanced off-target effect especially for the investigation of the function and cellular distribution of membrane lipids and proteins..... (more about RNAi)
